Show Prep and Bareback #3

Small picture, but proof of our bareback ride šŸ™‚

Yesterday was all about show-prep. YAY!!

My new clippers came in the mail, so I figured we could start the clipping drama. Robbye has never gotten used to having her face trimmed, so expected it to take at least three days to get her whiskers off.

Well…she showed me! With a bit of bribery (she really likes peppermints, it turns out), Robbye let us completely trim up her chin and nose. WOOHOO! We didn’t even try with her eyes and ears – we’ll work on those some other times.

I went for a bareback ride next. Worked on walk > halt transitions a little bit, then trotted as much as I could. It’s quite a workout, but I did feel my seat returning a bit. Maybe. Hopefully.

Next we worked on loading in the trailer. She was much better than last time we practiced it; the first trip in took about ten minutes of fighting, but she walked right in for the second try. We’ve about decided that she’s not actually afraid of the trailer at all – she’s just being a stubborn butthole, and seeing how much she can get away with. Oh well, she’s not a butthole about too much anymore.

She did pee in the aisle because she’s so terribly in love with all of the geldings in the barn. Ugh.
